Lansche Audio: Model 8.2

Statement Active 3-Way Speaker with Plasma Tweeter

At the top of the Lansche range is the No.8.2, a 3-way design standing six and a half feet tall with a plasma tweeter in the center flanked by two 3-inch fabric-dome midranges and two 10-inch sealed woofers. Bringing up the bottom are two 15-inch aluminum, ported subwoofers powered by two 450-watt class-AB amps. The result is a frequency range extending from 16Hz to 150kHz with a sensitivity of 95dB/W/m.

The model already stands out due to its modular layout: This system is divided into three separate enclosures. Two identical bass modules are used for the top and bottom segments, surrounding a tweeter-only module in the middle. The advantage of this layout is that each of the modules can be technologically and acoustically optimized separately, i.e., to match the very different requirements of bass, midrange and treble reproduction. In the No. 8.2 system, all of the speaker drivers are vertically aligned using the symmetric D'Appolito layout. Thanks to precisely balanced frequency distribution, any room reflections interfering with the sound can be reduced to a minimum.

This makes it possible to enjoy the system's unique and authentic-sounding music reproduction technology in virtually any listening space. Your amplifiers can focus on reproducing the treble and midrange as accurately and transparently as possible, while the integrated amplifiers for each of the bass drivers take on the mighty task of reproducing the bottom octaves. In the sub-bass area, the integrated active circuitry makes all the difference: optimal damping of the long-throw drivers on the rear of the enclosure; active distortion limiting; perfect matching of amplifier output to driver capacity thanks to an intelligent control circuit. This uncompromising technology, combined with the advanced enclosure design, results in an internationally unrivalled sound reproduction quality – even at the very highest volume levels.

With its massless corona-plasma tweeter, the Lansche No.8.2 has world-class transparency, airiness, lack of hardness and grain, and the ability to make instruments and voices sound completely realistic. It is unlike any other speaker you have ever heard.

The tweeter is at the speaker’s physical center; the entire design flows on from this transducer. The massless tweeter needs small and lightweight cone midranges to avoid an audible mismatch or discontinuity. The woofers, in turn, must then be matched and tuned to the midranges.

Lansche have succeeded in doing this admirably.

A grand monument to German inginuity and engineering. Heroic cabinet construction finished to the level of a concert grand piano. Truly stunning in every aspect.

Lansche Audio: Model 4.1

2.5 Way Speaker with Plasma Tweeter

The No. 4.1 loudspeaker is a 2½-way system with an integrated active bass unit. Two side-positioned 25-cm long-stroke chassis are at work in each loudspeaker, which are activated by an integrated power amplifier.

The No. 4.1 loudspeaker is a 2½-way system with an integrated active bass unit. Two side-positioned 25-cm long-stroke chassis are at work in each loudspeaker, which are activated by an integrated power amplifier. This allows them to draw on their own customized power source, accessible without long signal paths, which thus keeps the chassis on a “short leash.” As a result of the back-to-back configuration, the enclosure experiences only minimal vibrations and distortion is significantly reduced as compared to a single driver, which is subject to more motion. A pleasant side effect of the driver configuration is the slender form of the enclosure with its acoustically optimal baffle.

The 20-cm midrange driver consists of an Omniex membrane that weighs only 8 grams. It is mounted with a hard suspension that produces almost no throw at all. The lightweight, highly responsive midrange driver is a proprietary development, enabling seamless soft coupling via an ultra low-loss frequency crossover with exceptional impulse fidelity. Considering its superb resonance and distortion characteristics, this driver represents a perfect match for the CORONA plasma tweeter. As a wideband system, it also provides a perfectly phase-optimized crossover network using just two components of the highest quality. The partially active concept and the high degree of speaker efficiency also permit the use of smaller amplifiers, for example, based on tube technology.

We love these speakers. Inevitably the question arises how they compare to "Dynamic" speakers?

The coherence, transparency, dynamics and contrast possible with the 4.1 speaker put them upfront in first class. Certainly on a par with the very best dynamic speakers.

How about ribbons and electrostats? The 4.1 matches or exceeds them in transparency, microdynamics, and doesnt compress in complex and loud passages.

Horn lovers will find it matches dynamic contrast, acceleration, and sensitivity without any honk or shouty midrange.

Out-of-the-box performance set the bar higher than you ever thought possible. With a 20-Hz-150kHz bandwidth, it remains a serious contender for best-of-breed.
